Flat Roof Installation
Installing a flat roof has a different procedure than other roof types, as you might have guessed. There are a few different varieties of roofing material that work on low-slope roofs, including:
- BUR (built-up roofing)
- Modified bitumen
- Single-ply membrane
BUR is a common choice for many commercial properties, and consists of rolls of treated felt being overlapped on the roof surface using hot asphalt or tar. Built-up roofing doesn’t have the longest of lifespans, but can be quite cost effective.
Modified bitumen is similar to BUR in that it is a coated felt that gets sealed to the surface of the roof, however it is only one layer of felt, and it has been treated with asphalt and coated in granules for protection from the elements.
Single-ply membrane can be one of the best materials for flat roofs. It requires torching to install the seams, and, as the name suggests, is only one layer deep.
Different properties have different needs, and we’d be happy to go over the different benefits and drawbacks to each of these materials and help you determine which will best suit your needs. Call to set up your free estimate.
